The Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award

The Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award seeks to identify and nurture talented young musicians who need financial assistance in order to reach their full artistic potential.

Approximately twenty student musicians ages 8-18 will be selected annually to receive Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Awards.  Each of these students will:

·          Receive a $10,000 scholarship, to assist with artistic development and education.
·          Perform on a live taping of From the Top’s National Public Radio program.
·          Participate in a Cultural Leadership training workshop, to become a community advocate for the arts.

Also announcing the Talent Development Award

Approximately five student musicians ages 8-13 will be selected annually to receive the Talent Development Award. This Award will be given to a select number of musically promising younger students who apply, but are not selected for, the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award.   Each of these students will:

·          Receive a $5,000 scholarship for instrument purchase and/or summer music program tuition
·          Receive further mentorship in their field to more fully develop their evident talent potential
·          Be presented with the opportunity to renew the scholarship after one year of satisfactory participation in the program for a second year of mentorship and an additional $5,000 (totaling $10,000 over the course of two years)

Talent Development Award recipients will not be featured on a From the Top radio show in 2006-2007, but will be encouraged to re-apply for the radio show in the future. The same application, deadlines, and selection process will be used for both awards.
