Rehearsal Information
2010-2011 Season
Where
All three orchestra rehearse on Sundays at Butler University’s Lilly Hall. Symphony Orchestra rehearses in LH112 and Concert Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra rehearse in LH177 or LH110.
Alternate locations for rehearsal include Carmel High School, Zionsville High School, Ben Davis High School, University of Indianapolis and Pike High School.
When
New World follows a calendar similar to a school-year calendar. Rehearsals begin in August and finish in late May with no rehearsals on Labor Day weekend, Thanksgiving weekend, the last 2 Sundays in December, the first Sunday of January and 2 Sundays around Spring Break/Easter.
Rehearsal times vary from orchestra to orchestra and run as follows:
Symphony Orchestra 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (new end time beginning in fall 2010)
Philharmonic Orchestra 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Concert Orchestra 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Check-In for Attendance
A check-in table will be set up each rehearsal and will have any
updates or announcements you should know. You should be
checked in at least 15 minutes prior to the start of rehearsal to
allow yourself enough time to get set up, tuned and ready to
rehearse.
Attendance is taken at each rehearsal. Missing more rehearsals
than permitted in the Member Handbook may result in removal
for that concert.
Parking
Butler University campus parking is free on weekends around Lilly Hall and Clowes Memorial Hall. Pay attention to markings on signs. Handicapped parking is available near all three entrances to Lilly Hall. We recommend parking against the North or West Malls or in the Clowes Memorial Hall parking lot for compliance with Butler University parking regulations and to have close access to the building.
Pick-Up and Drop-Off at Lilly Hall
Parents and members are not to use the circle drive in front of Clowes Memorial Hall for any reason. Many events take place at Clowes Memorial Hall during our rehearsals and we are responsible for allowing traffic to flow. If you arrive early and must wait for your child, please park and walk in rather than blocking the driving lane in front of Lilly Hall. If asked to move by Butler Police, please comply with their requests as they may issue tickets for non-compliance. We are guests at this facility and enjoy a good relationship with both administration and police - help us keep it that way!
Rehearsal Etiquette
Some things to keep in mind for rehearsals:
Bring your pencil, music, instrument, folding stand and any other supplies you might need (i.e. rock stops, rosin, spare strings, etc.)
You should be seated, tuned, warmed up and ready to play before rehearsal begins
No food is allowed in the rehearsal room but drinks with caps are okay
NO CELL PHONES SHOULD BE OUT DURING REHEARSALS
Breaks During Rehearsal
Each orchestra may receive one or more breaks during the course of rehearsal at the discretion of its conductor. New World Youth Orchestras does not provide snacks, but vending machines are available at most rehearsal locations.
