Young Conductor Training Program
About the Program:
The New World Youth Orchestras Young Conductor Training Program aims to give aspiring conductors and educators the opportunity to study the art of conducting in preparation for a career in music education, conducting, or music performance.
Led by the NWYO Artistic Director and Assistant Conductor, program participants will learn the history of conducting, pedagogy of conducting, conducting technique, music history, music theory, score study, ear training, and will also have the opportunity to conduct small ensembles. This program accepts a maximum of 12 students.
Attend five, 90-minute instruction sessions per concert cycle (fifteen total sessions) on Sundays from 4:00 – 5:30 pm in room 044 of Lilly Hall, Butler University
Attend a minimum of five regular Symphony Orchestra rehearsals per concert cycle (fifteen total sessions) on Sundays from 1:00 – 4:00 pm in room 112 of Lilly Hall, Butler University
Attend a minimum of two NWYO concerts throughout the season
Fill out the online application by September 1, 2018
As part of the application, you will be asked to upload a video of yourself (either conducting or performing a brief solo on your primary instrument) and a Letter of Intent explaining your reasons for participation.
Complete a brief interview with the NWYO Artistic Director on September 8, 2018.
This program is open to high school students in the state of Indiana who are active participants of their school music programs.
